Water, Water, Water

In the last several years, I have been trying to drink more water. Some H2O authorities state that the average person should divide their body weight by two and drink the ounces of what that number is...so I weigh 230 lbs, I should be drinking about 115 ounces of water a day. Not all at once, but in hourly aquatic allocations.

It is supposed to be healthier to be hydrated (yeah, that is the word, after several minutes of pondering) . I do find that I walk the three blocks to the men's faculty bathroom at work a lot more...and the trot is good for me. But, it just seems to be too much agua. Yet, I attempt to quaff two 16 oz glasses in the morning and another two glasses when I get home from work. So, I am around 80 oz's a day from that and other sources.

Lina and I have found leaving the Brita container on the kitchen counter to be the best reminder to drink water. I like my water either hot or cold, but in this case, lukewarm seems to be unavoidable. When we stick the container in the fridge, we forget to drink from it. BTW, if you drink straight tap water and your water authority uses chlorine, be advised that you need to stop drinking it. That we have kids swimming in chlorinated pools boggles my mind. A general rule, anything that kills a germ, a weed, or an insect will not be good for you.

Spiritually, the world offers a lot of beverages, and much of it will rot ones soul like soda does to teeth. And drinking from the well of the world, leaves one even thirstier in the end.

Part of drinking from Christ's well of water (John 4:14) is to keep spiritual drink close by...for example, books on the TV room table and sermons downloaded on a mp3 player. Rather than mindlessly clicking on the TV's remote and trawling through the inane, immoral, and the idiotic screen sludge, read an uplifting book or listen to a good sermon. Not all TV is bad, but much of it is.

When we make good choices, it is often because we have already created the conditions for that good choice to be made prior. Put yourself in a position to be positive previously.

Someone who has a problem with alcohol should not keep booze in the house, an obese person trying to lose weight should pack the fridge and cabinets with healthy snacks and banish the crud, one who is prone to porn should download a web filter, an impulsive shopper should cut the credit cards in half.
