Obama Vacation: Give It A Rest

Image
I think it surprises people that I defend Obama at times. There is much in terms of his beliefs and actions I don't agree with but when I do agree with a position and a perspective, I don't have any issue with supporting his stance. It really is not a Yes or No deal. Call me major Red & minor Blue. I didn't vote for the man for President and probably would not vote for him to a position on the local school board, so I am not some closet Liberal. Domestically, I really don't think he knows how to govern. Period. He gives decent speeches, he is thoughtful, but his is better suited for professorship, not presidency. He is a professional pontificator...that is his best skill by far. And maybe his golf game. But to agree when there is agreement is just common sense. Further, that to me is just being fair. I would hope for the same with people who disagree with me on some (or most issues) to stand with me when they happen to concur. I think our criticisms are grea

The Garden: Life, Death, & Life Again

Image
Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane (a garden) and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." Matthew 26:36 Jesus prays in the garden before He goes to the Cross. The place of life becomes a place of death, and then life again. Amen. Reader Warning: This is a long, long blog. My attempt to put the last seven years behind me. When I lived at my previous house, the garden out back became the perfect illustration of a life going to Hell. Readers of this blog are well familiar with my battles with the groundhog which ultimately resulted in my just planting tomatoes and jalapenos, stuff they didn't like. Occasionally, a half-eaten tomato would be laying around, as if the groundhogs gave the fruit another cha

When the Laughter Ends: Robin Williams

"Laughter," I said, "is madness. And what does pleasure accomplish?"   Ecclesiastes 2:2 Yesterday morning, I received the Dead Poets Society DVD in the mail. Last night, I heard of Robin Williams suicide. Social Media and Twitter (and all of the other venues that I have not the time or inclination to peruse like Instagram) were a tsunami, a digital outpouring of grief, disbelief, tears, and remembrance. The local flagship television station WGAL, so ossified and brittle and out of touch, still lead in its promo of the 11:00 evening news with some "Foot and Mouth" disease that kids could pick up off of playground equipment. Really missed the Zeitgeist train there.  In writing about this today, I don't just want to hop on the bandwagon without saying something maybe a bit different than the mainstream take on things. So, here goes.   I had ordered the DVD of DPS to have for the College and Career Class I am teaching 2nd MP at school. I hav
