Edge Book

In the last few years, bierkergaard has generated over 150,000 pageviews. Not bad for a dude who lives in Columbia, Pa. The readership spans the world. I assume people read the blog because it offers a unique perspective on theology. My own mom doesn't read it, so it can't be that these numbers are generated from family guilt.   I am passionate to make a case for Christ in an imaginative manner through a balance of serious and silly. Pointing out the profound in what are often my dumb mistakes. There is an endless supply it seems as I approach 800 posts in all.     Our world has never needed the Gospel more but know it less. In such a sophisticated age, we are intellectual infants theologically. People make the most fundamentally incorrect statements about the Bible which demonstrates that they have not even taken the time to read the Bible in any in-depth manner. The Bible is by far the best selling boo...

Love Covers A Multitude of Sins

Image
1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. The other night I was microwaving/reheating some cheesesteak meat with tomato sauce. Without thinking, I put the bowl in the microwave uncovered with a paper towel. The meat popped like popcorn and exploded as a road side bomb. I became distracted by something else and by the time I came back to the kitchen, the damage had been done (not the pic above though). It is not like I never used a microwave before... I got to thinking about the verse at top. How a paper towel covers the contents of the bowl, keeping it from spewing all over the place when the heat is on. We have all seen gnarly microwaves that induce gagging. Especially the petrified food.   Our current age enjoys splashing sin all over place and it would be quite better to learn the trait of covering private sins and keeping them private. Only if the public welfare is placed at risk d...

April 1 - Come All Ye Fools

Image
2nd Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. Never was an age so sophisticated and so foolish. We hold powerful gadgets in our hands, we have no idea of how they work. They have been engineered by geniuses to be used by simpletons. The digital divide between the device and the individual. When I was in the process of being converted, it was in stages---of God dispelling the darkness with the light of Christ, as morning ushers out the night by degrees, faith for doubt. It was very critical to me that my faith be grounded in fact, not fancy. Facts require analysis, interpretation, and decision. The dirty secret of deep epistemology is that our hearts always determine what our heads believe. Not two plus two stuff but meaning, purpose, and destiny. Facts are adopted or discarded according to what we want to believe....
