I'm Juicing

No, I am not taking steroids. Instead, we (Lina & I) are drinking smoothies (with the pulp) of organically grown greens and fruit. Whole foods. Usually, the glass bottle in the picture functions as my beer growler. You know that we are serious about it when such a replacement transpires.

Lina and I have been on a mission of sorts to find locally grown and organic vegetables and fruits. One would think that here in Lancaster County, in some of the richest farmland in the world, that would be not much of a challenge. Not so, as we have discovered.

Here, like everywhere in US, agribusiness dominates the market from field to store shelf. Any produce in the stores that is organic tends to be priced much higher leading consumers to opt for less healthfully grown and less sustainable options.

Thus, It was with great joy that I found that Marietta has a farmer's market (click) with mostly organic vegetables and fruits on Sundays. The market is moderate in pricing and wonderful in products. Showing the positives of social networking, I followed a trail on Facebook of like-minded organizations and individuals until I unearthed it.

We went out yesterday to the Marietta Market in the down-pouring rain. I considered that it might be discouraging to the growers and sellers that so few came out. We wanted to give them hope that their work is not in vain. We really vote with our money and we must start putting cash in the pockets of those who practice sustainable agriculture. Please understand that companies like Monsanto only care about your cash and will beat the soil into submission until it has nothing left to give. And if money is what only matters to these soulless suits, our money must go elsewhere. Shocking...a conservative who believes in wise conservation and not raw consumption. Step out of the line of the corporate death march off the cliffs.

Get wet and lose some convenience to take a walk to wellness even if it puts your foot in a puddle. Go to the Marietta Market and cast a vote for wholeness with your money.

Genesis 1:29

Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
