Blue Jean Jesus: Incarnation in Blue

Is. 53:2

He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

I am a Levi's blue jeans man. With the rivets. Always have been, the epitome of coolness.

I have gradations in blue jeans for different uses--like a caste of clothes. I have work blue jeans for internal and house use when I am chilling and working, outside blue jeans for public viewing and interaction with fellow humans, and the elite "Skinny" blue jeans when I am attempting to be a Hipster, minus the explosive and expansive facial hair. What beards!

I think Jesus would wear blue jeans if He was in the flesh walking around in the world today. He was a blue-collar carpenter, doing His final and best work on the wooden Cross. Nails, wood, work unto redemption, sweat of the brow, and anguish of the soul.

Wearing blue jeans to Church on Sunday is an act of Sabbath. For some, wearing blue jeans on Sunday would remind of them of work. Not me, wearing a tie and suit reminds me of work or a job interview. I practically have an allergic reaction to wearing a tie on Sundays.

My favorite jeans are the home jeans. They are torn in suggestive places, have history in the blue of past days, and totally relax me. Bacon grease on the denim, no problem. Common use--and because of the low status, any marring hardly stresses me out. More of the same. Now with the Skinny jeans, a stain or rip would cause convulsions.

When Jesus came into the world, He came as a common man, not a king, or actually a king in disguise. He went down into the dirt and muck of the world, to bring us up and out. Not by sitting on His throne and delegating the dirty deed of redemption to a lesser subject. Instead, He gave Himself. Red blood on denim. Incarnation in Blue. The Tribe of Levis...
