Wine, Please

I have been listening to the same section of Luke on CD my car going up to work for at least the last two weeks if not more. So, I have become much more familiar with Luke's Gospel. I'd like to say because it is because I wanted to delve much deeper into this part of the Bible. No, it is more due to my laziness of not wanting to have to take the CD out, put it in the casing, and put in a new Bible CD.

Nonetheless, God uses my slackness for my good. I suppose it is a good sign that I am listening to the same part of the Bible over and over again rather than a stand-up routine from Larry the Cable Guy.

As I have listened to the last days of Jesus, I have learned some new things. Like this: Jesus gave wine to His Disciple at the Last Supper and told them to drink it, then He broke bread, then He gave them wine again. Boy, that would really frost the legalists if we had wine twice in our Communion service (Yes, the church that I attend...evangelical...actually serves wine during Communion--along with the grape juice, for those who desire it).

This double serving of wine is an interesting detail--probably full of deep spiritual meaning that I just miss.

I purchased mine at Borders a few years back. I got the New Living Translation which is very easy to listen to. I find when I listen to the Bible, sometimes I am more attentive to the details. When I read, I can gloss over stuff that I think I know but really don't.

Going Rogue: Dare, Risk, Dream

I picked up a bumper sticker at a Pub recently from the Rogue Brewery . On it there are the words: DARE, RISK, DREAM. Typically, the word Rogue is a negative term. I will let you decide if Sarah Palin and her book has made the word less or more so. Initially, I taped the bumper sticker to my computer lap top with the backing still on it in case I wanted to remove it. Just a second ago, I committed fully, and pulled the backing off and affixed it to my Dell. No turning back. Is that not an illustration of how to accomplish great things? We have to stick and commit. If we go taping ourselves to the backs of things, it leads to easier removal but also to tepid efforts. Now, if I take this bumper sticker off the back of my lap top it is going to be a mess...I am all in. Consequences be damned. Thomas Jefferson & Jesus

I was reminded today, by a friend's post on Facebook, that it is Thomas Jefferson's birthday. So, I had a little party on my own of watching two documentaries on him through Netflix Instant. There is much I admire about Jefferson, there is much I dislike. He is polarizing figure. Besides the owning of slaves, the second most odious character flaw was his castration of the New Testament . See my slice of his slicing. Live by the razor, die by the razor. I did learn a cool new word call Amphiboligism which means ambiguity. The arrogance of Jefferson is astounding as if he had a more accurate vantage point of Jesus after 17 centuries than Jesus's own contemporaries and colleagues. In an empirical and scientific sense, he is at a considerable disadvantage in his postulations.
